STAFF ONLY: LUC
Sit down for a chat with a member of the Oaf Team as they tell us what they do, what floats their boat and what absolutely sinks it.
Next up on our grand tour of Team Oaf is Luc, our apparel graphic designer who works on all the graphics and prints that you know and love us for. Luc is one of the people behind our new Adopt-a-Creep collection, and at the beginning of 2022 when we were getting far too invested in glorified ice sweeping at the Winter Olympics, Luc was scribbling away designing the grungy graphics that feature in the collection. So it seems only right that now it’s out in the world that we have a catch up with Luc to find out what his favourite piece is, how he likes to waste time, and what he’s having for lunch.
Hey Luc, how’s your day so far?
Very good! The sun is shining! Sort of.
Tell everyone who you are and what you do at Lazy Oaf:
I am a 27 year old French human obsessed with everything visual and design, as well as music and skateboarding. I work as an apparel graphic designer, which means I design things to go on clothing! I create drawings, manipulate images and text… and then turn them into pieces you can wear. Or not but that’s really up to you!
What’s your favourite lunch food?
I like a bit of everything, but avocado on toast with a poached egg does the job - I like simple stuff for lunch!
Talk us through what a day looks like as a designer at Oaf?
I usually wake up in a grumpy mood, shower immediately in order to wake up a bit more, and then go to the bakery down the road and grab a really overpriced almond croissant. Then I sit at my desk all day, try to do some stretches in between sitting so my back doesn't disintegrate, then exit the desk and go experience the real world!
You worked on the graphics for the Adopt-a-Creep collection. Where did you draw inspiration from?
The theme was based on skulls and bones and vintage metal tees, so I drew inspiration from punk and DIY magazines from the 90’s, as well as metal bands artworks…
What’s your favourite piece from the collection?
I like the Lazy Bones cardigan! I love the little bones on the sleeves and the big back print.
Do you have a favourite way to waste time?
Working! What a waste of time!
Tea or coffee?
Coffee.
What’s your favourite borough in London and why?
Hackney! Because that’s where I lived for a while now.. But also because there’s always stuff going on!
What do you order at Wagamama?
I don’t think I’ve ever been to Wagamama!
Favourite Lazy Oaf item ever?
Oohhh maybe something from one of the upcoming collections we have designed? They’re not out yet. Nice stuff coming soon! 👀
What are you most looking forward to in Summer 2022?
The sun! Plus late evenings, travelling to the south of France, and drinking iced coffees all day.
Tell us your top three TV shows of all time:
Pokemon
Yu gi oh
Twin peaks
Do you have a party trick?
My party trick is to not show up to the party!
What are you most excited for in the next year at Oaf?
For the Adopt-a-Creep collection to come out!
Who are your artistic heroes?
Oh that’s a hard one to say. There’s two that pop up in my head now: Takashi Murakami or Toshio Saeki.
Describe your perfect night in?
Cook a nice meal while listening to music, then eat and watch a nice movie or documentary!
What’s your favourite thing to listen to whilst working?
A lot of music! All kinds of genres. Also documentaries or podcasts every now and then. I like hearing people talk about random things while I work so I can expand my knowledge.
Any words of wisdom for the people?
Maybe… slow it down? Stop overthinking? (These are more words of wisdom for myself!)
